China's Domestic Brew To Beat Out Bud Light As World's Best Selling Beer
China's Snow beer is expected to become the world's largest selling beer brand by the end of the year, overtaking the position Anheuser Busch's Bud Light has held for years.
SABMiller's Chinese beer brand, Snow, first hit the market in 2002, and quickly began a steady climb in sales, beating out China's former biggest seller, Tsingtao breweries, by 2006.
According to the British Financial Website, thisismoney.com, a changing market in China has created more demand for their domestic beer. The growing economy means more disposable income for the consumer culture, plus, the sheer availability of Snow beer, and its reported quality and inexpensiveness make it a popular libation.
In the first half of this year 5 billion pints of Snow beer were drunk in China, and in the second half of the year business forecasters expect the same, which will make Snow beer the most consumed beer in the world.
SABMiller is only, however, making 5 percent of its profits off the beloved brew, as cost is kept low to the consumer. A bottle of snow beer costs about 30 U.S. cents.
