Did you know that
Spaniards were the first beer brewers
According to an article in the daily newspaper Periodico of Wednesday 6 October 2004, the ancestors of today’s Spaniards were brewing beer as early as 5 000 years ago. They drank strong beer hundreds of years before wine became popular.
Not only because they were thirsty, but also to celebrate military victories and to honour guests. Beer ingredients and brewing equipment have been discovered in Can Sadurni, near Barcelona. Can Sadurni is said to be the place where beer was first brewed and drunk anywhere in Europe. The beer of the ancient Iberians had almost twice the alcoholic strength of modern pils beers.
